JM Family Enterprises Contributes $20,000 to Atlanta's Red Cross for Flood Relief
ATLANTA, October 29, 2009 - Recognizing the extreme circumstances felt throughout parts of Georgia after record-breaking flooding in September, diversified automotive company JM Family Enterprises, Inc. and its subsidiaries Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC and DataScan Holdings, LLC donated $20,000 in total to the American Red Cross Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter to assist with the disaster relief effort.

Seeing the immediate need in the community, DataScan associates in Alpharetta, Ga. and Southeast Toyota associates in Commerce, Ga. provided $5,000 each from their local Corporate Philanthropy budgets. Parent company JM Family then matched the $10,000 donations.

"Responding to our communities, particularly in times of crisis, is a part of who we are," said Colin Brown, president and CEO of JM Family Enterprises. "Through our support of the American Red Cross, we know these funds are making a difference for families and individuals in Georgia as they begin to rebuild. I'm grateful to our associates for their compassion and responsiveness."

According to Metro Atlanta Red Cross CEO Tim English, floods are among the most costly natural disasters in terms of human hardship and economic loss. A Red Cross response the size of the relief operation in Georgia requires a vast reserve of resources. In addition to the cost of providing food, shelter and other client services, it takes money to run Emergency Response Vehicles, warehouse supplies, operate call centers and train, transport and house volunteers.

"We're grateful to JM Family Enterprises for their generous donation for Red Cross disaster relief and their corporate philosophy of giving to meet essential needs in their local communities," said English. "Their support helps make it possible for us to be there for our neighbors who were devastated by the floods."

The Red Cross launched a full-scale flood relief operation in Georgia on September 21, 2009. To date, with the support of financial donors such as JM Family, local emergency partners and 800-plus volunteers, the Red Cross has provided emergency aid to thousands of Georgians through services that include: financial assistance, sheltering, feeding, distribution of clean-up supplies and personal hygiene kits, health and emotional support and community referrals.
